The Taiwan Journal of Linguistics (TJL ISSN:1729-4649), now open access, is a peer-reviewed international journal of linguistics published by Crane Publishing in Taiwan. Its editorship is under the governance of the Graduate Institute of Linguistics and the Department of English, National Chengchi University (NCCU). The TJL is published in one volume per year, consisting of a spring issue and a fall issue. The language of publication is English.
The idea of a commercially-backed, professionally-edited international linguistics journal in Taiwan was first proposed to Crane Publishing, the leading publisher and bookseller in the area of linguistics in the country, by Professor One-Soon Her, the then chair of the Graduate Institute of Linguistics, National Chengchi University, in the fall of 2002. A formal agreement was then reached between Crane and NCCU and a proper infrastructure established. The first issue of The TJL appeared in the first half of 2003 and it has been published regularly ever since. In 2004, The TJL also launched its monograph series with an international call for manuscripts. Its first monograph was published in the same year, and number two and three are already in the planning. In 2005, The TJL launched the Book Series in Chinese Linguistics and the fist volume is currently in press. TJL is indexed in: MLA International Bibliography, MLA Directory of Periodicals, CSA Linguistics & Language Behavior Abstracts, and THCI Core.
Monograph and Book Series
The aim of The TJL Monograph Series and Book Series is to aid linguists in Taiwan make research findings available to a wider domestic and international readership. Researchers in academic fields in Taiwan are frequently forced to resort to the unprofessional practice of ‘self-publishing’, especially for presentation of a major work which may be submitted in application for promotion. Linguists in Taiwan now have an alternative in that The TJL offers a professional channel for book-length manuscripts to be anonymously peer-reviewed, formally published, and commercially distributed. The same standards that apply to TJL journal articles apply here as well.
Electronic submissions are encouraged and should be sent to firstname.lastname@example.org.
Otherwise, send the manuscript in triplicate and a soft copy on disk, to:

Both Word and PDF files are acceptable. A paper normally should not exceed 40 pages single-spaced. The author(s) of each published paper will receive five copies of the journal issue. A manuscript may follow the style sheet of any established linguistics journal; however, once accepted, an article must then conform strictly to The TJL Style Sheet and The TJL Template.
Contributions may be submitted from all countries and are accepted all year round. The language of publication is English. However, manuscripts simultaneously submitted to other publications cannot be accepted.
A manuscript in the 'revise and resubmit' category must be resubmitted within 12 months, and a manuscript in the 'revise with no need for further reviews' category must be revised and sent back to the editor within 3 months, and when approved, the final proof according to the TJL style sheet is then expected within a month. Please note that a paper cannot be claimed as 'accepted' or 'to appear' without a formal notice of acceptance from the editor.
